The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) is running a digital information campaign on antibiotics aimed at young adults using the character Andi Biotic. The aim of the campaign is to encourage correct use of antibiotics, use only those prescribed for them and not save unused antibiotics for future use.

The campaign is running across social media platforms in the form of short videos.

Importantly, it is reminding people that antibiotics do not work for colds and flu; Pelargonium is a herbal medicine that can be used to relieve cold and flu symptoms.

The UKHSA has also published a study that has reported some bacteria have already become resistant to one of the newest antibiotics, ceftazidime/avibactam. this antibiotic is on the Reserve list of the UK-AWaRe classification  – Access, Watch, Reserve – which means it is used as a last resort in highly selected patients for life-threatening infections due to multi-drug-resistant bacteria.
